  4. Good luck with your travels, which will no doubt be more interesting than ours!
Off to London yesterday, in defiance of a rather gloomy weather forecast, heading for the Monument and the Tower Bridge Experience.
Met Valerie and Gill at London Bridge, off to seek intellectual stimulus at the Natural History Museum, sensibly,as it turned out opting for indoor entertainment! Well, it stayed dry until we reached the Monument!
It's curious that at ground level it seems totally surrounded by much higher edifices, yet at the top the views are quite breathtaking. They would have been even better without the rain coming down horizontally! Still, we all 3 managed the 311 steps (and down again) and now have the certificates to prove it.
Back over the brdige and a quick tube journey to Westminster saw us arriving in Parliament Square to emerging sunshine. Walked the length and breadth of the exterior of Westminster Abbey (several times) with Andy taking pictures. These are to enhance Al's history of gothic architecture essay, the last assignment of Year 1!
After lunch by the London Eye, the rain just about holding off, we headed back to Tower Bridge, where mercifully a lift took us to the first of 2 elevated walkways. both walkways are entirely enclosed and again the views are superb. More steps (of course) to descend and then a quick march past Cityhall, More London, the misguided souls queuing for the London Dungeon (why?!) and back home.
Off to the gym in the evening with Fred, even more hardgoing than usual, on account of not having been for a couple of months coupled with a day spent ascending and descending steps... am confidently expecting movement of any kind to not be easy tomorrow..
Hoping to head for Salisbury en famille on Saturday, in search of more gothic features... suspect that blog comments from the King residence may continue to have an architectural theme, at least for the next 3 weeks!
Bon voyage and we wish you better luck than us with the weather!!
    love
